The car troubles started in May when the alternator in Amber Summers' Ford Fusion went out.

Then the battery gave out three times in a month.

Summers, an accountant in Lincoln, would leave work hourly just to start her car so she could make it to the Veterans Treatment Court, a program that gives veterans like her involved in the justice system a second chance.

"With all the things I have to do, buses are not really an option," Summers said. "My paychecks went down significantly, and I got behind on bills."

But earlier this month, Summers' troubles disappeared.

On Aug. 11, Summers was gifted a 2011 Lincoln MKZ from A1 Automotive and the Veterans of Foreign Wars, which will allow her to finish the veterans court program, she said.
