A 66-year-old man is in critical condition after being struck by a van while crossing a street in Scarborough on Friday afternoon. The incident occurred shortly after 2 p.m. at the intersection of Lawrence Avenue East and Bellamy Road North.
According to Toronto police, a 61-year-old man driving a red van made a left turn from eastbound Lawrence Avenue to southbound Bellamy Road when he hit the pedestrian. Constable Sinderela Chung provided details in a statement released on Saturday, noting that the driver remained at the scene following the collision.
“The pedestrian was transported to hospital with life-threatening injuries,” Chung stated. No additional information about the victim or the circumstances of the accident has been disclosed.
The investigation is currently being conducted by members of the Traffic Services unit. Police are urging local residents, businesses, and drivers who may have security or dash camera footage of the area or the incident to reach out to investigators.
