NEW PHILADELPHIA – One person is reported dead after a single-vehicle crash around 2 a.m. today, Aug. 23, near South Broadway and Hilan Ave SW.

New Philadelphia police officers responding to a report of a crash found the vehicle with a deceased adult male passenger. The driver had fled on foot, police said, but the officers found him a short distance away and took him into custody.

Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash, according to the police department’s news release . The investigation is continuing.

New Philadelphia police said they are not releasing names until formal charges are filed and family notifications are made. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact police at 330-343-4488.
