WHEELER, Texas (KFDA) - Head coach Matt Hoover and the Wheeler Mustangs are gearing up for a new season.

Early on, coach Hoover says the air game is already improving from last year.

“We’re throwing the ball really well early on. We did really well in the first scrimmage throwing the ball, and it’s been one of those things that we’ve worked on consistently throughout the whole off-season, throughout the summer and it’s paid off really well so far.”

Wheeler finished second in their district last season — only behind Wellington. This year, they’re looking to be at the top.

The Mustangs are as competitive as ever in 5-2A, but it wasn’t always seasons of fighting for district championships.

Even when the wins weren’t there for Wheeler, the fans were.
