YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) -- Rose Carter, executive director of A.C.T.I.O.N., celebrated her retirement on Saturday.
A.C.T.I.O.N. (Alliance for Congregational Transformation Influencing Our Neighborhoods) is "a community of diverse leaders committed to raising awareness and seeking solutions to overcome poverty, racism, and social injustice," according to their Facebook group.
Carter, who has dedicated years to serving the community, received a key to the city of Youngstown during Saturday's event.
"My parents, 82 years ago, didn't think they could have children. They thought I was a tumor, and when they realized I was going to be born, they gave me back to the Lord to serve, and that's what I did from nursing to community work," said Carter.
With her own foundation, The Carter Group, in
