NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — United Way of Southeast Louisiana honored the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina with an amplified day of service Saturday, Aug. 23.

According to United Way, the events were intended to reflect their commitment to the affected communities since the storm, recognize progress made and strengthen community preparedness.

United Way held volunteer events in New Orleans East, St. Bernard Parish, Jefferson Parish, and Plaquemines Parish. They provided up to $125 in utility bill assistance to Plaquemines Parish residents. They also distributed disaster preparedness kits and beautified outdoor spaces.
