CLEATOR, AZ (AZFamily) — Crews made a decades-old discovery in the desert of a historic Arizona ghost town earlier this week.

The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office says a tractor operator unearthed human bones and splintered remains of a wooden box near Cleator, Arizona, on Monday. Deputies, search and rescue dogs and the medical examiner staff were called in to investigate the site, digging up pieces of a wooden coffin with old huckles broken off.

While sifting through the crime scene, investigators determined that the remains may have been in the area dating back between 55 to 85 years ago. Experts from Prescott’s Sharlot Hall Museum were notified soon after the discovery.
