A recent poll from UC Berkeley found that 48% of Californians would vote in favor of redrawing the state’s congressional maps , giving early insights into where voters stand with the special election less than three months away.
The release of the poll’s results from the Institute of Governmental Studies at UC Berkeley followed Gov. Gavin Newsom’s signing of a legislative package that pushes the mid-decade redistricting measure and the statewide special election process forward.
Newsom, who’d been floating a plan to combat Texas Republican leaders’ redrawing of maps in favor of the GOP for weeks, announced the special election on Aug. 14. Come November, Californians will decide on whether to approve or deny new, temporary maps through Proposition 50.
