DULUTH, Minn. (Northern News Now) - Paddlers took to the waters of a windy Superior Bay for the Lake Superior Dragon Boat Festival.

The event has raised more than $1 million for the Superior Rotary, which shares the funding with local charities since the event began in 2002.

Nearly 40 teams competed in the event, including Northern News Now.

Superior Mayor Jim Paine is a member of the Superior Rotary and has helped with the event in many ways but has taken the role of steersperson for the past decade.

“I’ve been steering the boats for ten years. This is my 10th anniversary,” said Paine. “I get to be right behind the teams, actually in the boats helping with the races, getting the most intense dragon boat experience, and it’s just one of the most adventurous things you can do all summer
