UPPER DARBY – It felt like Cam Lundy had someone watching over him.
The Bonner & Prendergast junior lineman, making his first varsity start, held the game ball tight against his chest Saturday afternoon after the Friars opened their PIAA Class 4A title defense with a 53-0 rout of Simon Gratz.
Coach Jack Muldoon wrapped an arm around Lundy’s big shoulders during the postgame huddle and handed him the ball, reminding his teammates how special the moment was.
Lundy had already made sure the ball was his. He found the end zone twice in the opening quarter on special teams by first jumping a fake punt pass for a 16-yard pick-six, then pouncing on a punt blocked by CJ Amobi and rumbling five yards for tge score.
