A 19-year-old female motorcyclist was critically injured early this morning after sideswiping another vehicle at high speed on the H-1 freeway, according to the Honolulu Police Department.

HPD reported that the accident occurred in the eastbound lanes at about 12:27 a.m. in the Kalihi area. The motorcyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was ejected onto the roadway after losing control of the motorcycle and was later taken to a hospital in critical condition.

Occupants of the other vehicle involved in the collision, a 28-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, were not injured, HPD said.

HPD said it was initially unknown if alcohol or drugs were a factor, and that an investigation was ongoing.
