MADISON, Wis. (WMTV) - Madison area kids and teens of African descent came together to celebrate and learn more about African cultures at the Back to our Roots cultural festival Saturday.

“The African immigrant community has been around in Dane County and in the Greater Madison area since the 1960s,” said Ama Ptak, executive director of the African Center for Community Development. “We want them to know about their cultures, their heritage, and to also learn a little bit more about the African continent...

Ptak says it is good for people to know their roots and learn more about their languages to appreciate where they come from.
