AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — The Amarillo Animal Management and Welfare (AAMW) Department made a splash on Saturday with its annual Puppy Pool Party, part of the Clear the Shelters campaign.
Visitors enjoyed free popsicles and games while meeting adoptable dogs playing in pools. All adoption fees were waived, including spay or neuter, vaccinations, and microchips, throughout August.
"We want to get people out here to come and adopt a new pet and add to their family," Brandi Bullock, Assistant Director at AAMW, said.
Over 200 animals have been adopted so far this month, and AAMW hopes to reach 325 by August 31.
"We're opening up another spot for an animal once you've adopted one. You're not only saving one animal, you're saving multiple animals," Bullock said.
