An investigation is underway after a shooting left one person dead and another hospitalized in San Bernardino.

On Aug. 16, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department responded to a shooting in a wash area near the 500 Block of East Third Street around 7:30 p.m.

Deputies found two male victims with gunshot wounds at the scene. Both were transported to the hospital where one victim, Richard Anthony Smith, 30, of San Bernardino, died from his injuries.

The second victim, identified only as a 31-year-old man, received treatment and survived.

Detectives learned the victims were involved in an altercation with the suspects when they were shot. The suspects fled the scene before deputies arrived and remain on the run.
