MONROE ― The St. Mary Catholic Central’s football team was nearly perfect for the first 13 games of the 2024 season.
The Falcons won all of those games to win the Huron League championship and reach the Division 7 state championship game.
They finally stumbled at Ford Field in Detroit, falling 24-0 to Millington.
“We have a bitter taste in our mouths about what happened,” SMCC coach Adam Kipf said. “We picked the wrong time not to play our best game.”
The question is how the Falcons will deal with that disappointment.
“If we can harness that and correct what went wrong, it can be a great thing,” Kipf said. “If we dwell on it, it can ruin us.”
The players believe the adversity will make them stronger.
