During the long, grueling racing season of 18 weeks, it's not always easy to pinpoint the exact moment when a driver wins the points championship. Bryan Sykes Jr., however, had that moment late in the final Street Stock race of the 77th season at Bowman Gray Stadium.

Sykes was sitting in third place behind Christian Joyce, who was second, and Brad Lewis who was in first place. He needed to overtake Joyce to get to second place to win the points title and did just that in the nick of time.

In front of the largest crowd of the season with close to 15,000 fans, Sykes pulled off the pass and won the title. Lewis did all he could in winning the race but Sykes’s second place finish was the difference.
