NEWTON COUNTY, Ga. — A 16-year-old is accused of making a false report after Newton County deputies said a fake call was made about an active shooter at high school Friday.

Deputies said around 10:30 a.m., the anonymous caller reported an active shooter at Alcovy High and also referenced Eastside High during the call.

"Deputies immediately responded to both locations and confirmed there was no active threat at either school. The call was determined to be a hoax," the sheriff's office said.

The investigation led deputies to arrest the 16-year-old in connection with the incident. In addition to making a false report of a crime, the teen is also facing tampering with evidence and transmitting a false public alarm charges.
