LEXINGTON, Ky. — After almost a decade of planning and anticipation, Lexington neighbors can now step into Gatton Park, marking a new chapter in the city.

It’s hard to believe that only two years ago, the space where Gatton Park sits was an empty parking lot right behind Rupp Arena.

“It’s a place that brings not just Lexington, but the region together,” said Gatton Park CEO Allison Lankford. “And I think this park has a little bit of something for everyone.”

Gatton Park is the result of a massive community effort, funded entirely by donors, raising more than $55 million.

Thousands of people shared their ideas during the public outreach process. During the process, Lankford found COVID highlighted how much the Lexington community valued public spaces, especially now more than ever.
