A replica of a 1,000-year-old Viking longboat is set to sail into London this week, giving onlookers a view of what besieged Saxons may have seen when their shores were invaded centuries ago - without the pillaging from bloodthirsty marauders. A modern reconstruction of the 20 metre longboat, named the Saga Farmann , will arrive in St Katharine's Docks on afternoon of Wednesday, August 27.

The Saga Farmann's journey into London will mark the end its 'Ludenwic' voyage around Europe over the past several months, including a well-publicised trip to Paris, retracing the Vikings’ old trade routes.

The boat and its 18 crew members first departed its Norwegian home of Tønsberg in 2023, and it has sailed the Aegean, Adriatic, and Black Seas, making stop-offs in Greece, Croatia, and Italy.
