LONG BEACH, Calif. (KABC) -- Robert Garcia was the youngest mayor in the history of Long Beach, and now, he's the first sophomore congressman in 100 years to become the ranking member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.

Last week's ceremony was officiated by former Vice President Kamala Harris, who swore Garcia in as mayor of Long Beach in 2014.

Garcia was elected to serve as the Ranking Member and top Democrat of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee in June.

"It's a lead investigative role of the Congress," said Garcia. "Our committee leads investigations in a time where corruption in government is at an all-time high."
