NEWTOWN, Conn. (WFSB) - An investigation is underway following a fatal crash in Newtown on Sunday morning.

At around 2:41 a.m. first responders were called to the area of Berkshire Road just west of its intersection with Zoar Road after a report a crash, the police department said.

When crews arrived, they found multiple patients that suffered significant injuries.

Following a thorough investigation, it was revealed that a car was speeding while going westbound on Berkshire Road.

As the car was closer to the intersections the driver failed to make a left hand curve in the roadway and instead continued straight.

The vehicle then traveled off the westbound side of the roadway, where its front end hit a large tree.
