NEWTOWN, Conn. (WTNH) — A 19-year-old was killed and four other people were injured in an early morning crash in Newtown, police said.

At approximately 2:41 a.m., a Ford Mustang was traveling west on Berkshire Road (Route 34) at a high rate of speed before traveling off the roadway near Zoar Road and striking a tree, according to police.

Mary Cordero, 19, of Danbury, was pronounced dead at the scene. She was a passenger in the middle back seat of the car, police said.

Four other people were injured and were transported to the hospital. Two are believed to have critical injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
