Smoke from central Oregon’s rapidly spreading Flat fire has made the air “unhealthy” to breathe and the worst in the state, according to a state air quality index map , as firefighters try to contain the blaze northeast of Sisters.
Redmond, Bend and La Pine all registered air quality indices of more than 150, considered unhealthy for all populations. Sisters’ air quality index was 75.
The air is considered good when it measures 0 to 50 . Anything from 51 to 100 ranks as moderate, 101 to 150 as unhealthy for sensitive groups, and anything over 150 as unhealthy for everybody. Registering 300 to 500 is considered hazardous.
