OAKLEY, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — Firefighters successfully contained a wildfire that sprang up south of Oakley on Friday.

The 40-acre Red Cabin Fire began on Friday around 5 p.m., smoldering land approximately 10 miles south of Oakley and emitting a faint white smoke plume, according to the Bureau of Land Management.

Firefighters were able to contain the wildfire completely around 6 p.m. on Saturday. Crews originally planned to have the wildfire completely extinguished by 6 p.m. on Sunday, but it is now expected to be fully controlled by 8 p.m. on Monday.

Six engines were called in, and aerial units were seen dropping fire retardant overhead on Friday.

BLM said the cause of the fire is unknown, and the blaze did not threaten or damage any nearby properties.
