TUSCARAWAS COUNTY, Ohio (WJW) -- A freshman on the Tuscarawas Valley High School football team is paralyzed, his family said, after suffering an injury Friday night during the Trojans' first game of the season at Waynedale.

Waynedale Athletics posted about the incident on Facebook, saying Mayson White had to be carted off the field "following a tough collision in the second quarter."

The Tuscarawas Valley Local School District addressed the incident Sunday on social media, saying Mayson fractured his C4 vertebra which was putting pressure on his spine and underwent surgery at Akron Children's Hospital on Saturday. • Tusky Valley football player Mayson White • Tusky Valley football player Mays
