PHOENIX — A man drowned while swimming in the Salt River on Sunday morning, according to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office.
An MCSO spokesperson said the unidentified man was seen struggling while attempting to cross the river near Devil's Elbow, which is just past Blue Point Bridge.
The swimmer was reported missing around 8 a.m. He had last been seen wearing a black t-shirt and jeans.
Lake Patrol deputies searched for the man by ground, water, and air. Divers found and recovered the man's body around 11:30 a.m.
“Probably the quickest response I’ve seen in a lot of incidents we’ve had out there in many years, but even then, it’s too late because it happens so quick," Drowning Prevention Coalition of Arizona President Jay Arthur said.
