GOSHEN – Only a junior, Goshen’s Giovanni Hernandez-Leon has already proven that he can score a goal in the biggest spots, when the lights are the brightest.
Hernandez put up the game-winning goal for Goshen in the semifinals of the Section 9 Class AA tournament in each of the last two years. His goal-scoring exploits have given Goshen coach Mike Kelly the confidence to anoint Hernandez-Leon as the guy. The kid who will likely carry the scoring load for the perennial local soccer power.
“In any sport, you have a playmaker who you want to get the ball to,” said Kelly, who is in his 27 th season. “Giovanni is the guy we think will respond and get it done.
