Neighbors wake up to large tree that fell down in Coconut Grove neighborhood

Residents in Coconut Grove on Sunday woke up to a scare after a large tree came crashing down on cars and power lines.

Neighbors told NBC6 that they heard a loud sound just before 7 a.m., and when they came outside, they saw that a giant tree had fallen, blocking part of Mary Street.

They said this isn't the first time something like this has happened.

Surveillance video from a nearby home captured the moment the massive tree came crashing down right in front of several homes.

“There was like, a big branch coming here down that this one broke the car here, and the other big branch get there,” said a neighbor.

A Coconut Grove resident who did not want to go on camera described what he woke up to after two of his cars were crushed by the chaos.

He said he was not entirely surprised.
