CLEVELAND, Ohio (WOIO) - An early morning police chase resulted in a violent crash, killing a 37-year-old woman while others involved were rushed to the hospital.

“It sounded like somebody blew up a building,” said a witness who identified himself as Bernard. “I’ve seen crashes before but nothing like that.”

EMS responded to East 71st and Superior, debris still at the intersection after the crash at about 1:18 a.m. Sunday.

“When they passed us, they stepped on the gas and I was telling my brother, where are they going that fast and the next thing you know, we heard the crash, ‘BOOM!’” remembered the witness.

The chase started at East 13th and St. Clair at 1:16 a.m., according to the sheriff’s department release.
