YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) -- Youngstown City School District hosted a school supply and free haircut event on Sunday at East High School.
Kelan Bilal, owner of Excalibur Barber in Youngstown, wanted to use his skills to make sure every kid could start their school year in style. Bilal knew he could not do it alone, so he called on the community for support.
"Collaboration over competition, always," said Bilal. "It doesn't matter what we do in life; if you collaborate, you could do things better."
Bilal's team called on six other barbershops and dozens of community organizations to help provide free haircuts, school supplies, food and other resources for students during the "Bigger Than Us" giveaway event before the 2025 school year begins.
