The Frederick County School Board will not pursue a policy removing all books meeting the state’s definition of sexually explicit content from school libraries.

Chairman Edward “Scott” Sturdivant confirmed at the board’s recent meeting that the panel had come to a consensus on the matter, which has, for months, prompted debate among citizens and officials in the county.

Back in March, the School Board voted to table discussions surrounding a proposed policy change that would have “prohibited” such materials from FCPS libraries, with board members expressing concerns over unintentionally barring books that don’t warrant removal.
