Police respond to active shooter on USC campus

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Multiple police departments are responding to an active shooter on the campus of the University of South Carolina.

According to Carolina Alert, there is an active shooter at the Thomas Cooper Library on the Columbia campus.

Officials urge to avoid the area, and anyone on campus to evacuate, barricade, and defend.

In an alert from Carolina Alert, the message reads:

“An active shooter has been reported on the University of South Carolina’s Columbia campus at Thomas Cooper Library. Avoid the area. Evacuate the area or seek safe shelter and barricade yourself in a safe area as necessary until further notice. Defend yourself if you encounter the suspect. Obey public safety officials’ commands. Public safety officials are on the scene.”
