COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - Richland County Coroner Naida Rutherford has identified the victim of a fatal shooting that occurred on Friday at an off-campus student housing complex.

The coroner identified the victim as 19-year-old JoKayne Carter, of Columbia.

On Saturday, the Richland County Sheriff’s Department (RCSD) confirmed the arrests of 19-year-old Tyron Shelley and 20-year-old Ta’John Goodwin for murder in connection with the shooting.

The Richland County Sheriff’s Department said deputies responded just after 12:30 p.m. to the apartment complex after reports of a person being hit by gunfire.

After arriving, deputies located Carter with a gunshot wound to the upper body. He was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.
