ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — A new health initiative for Monroe County was announced on Sunday at Innovative Field.

During the Red Wings home game, celebrating "First Responders Day," officials from the City of Rochester and Monroe County, including Mayor Malik Evans and Monroe County Executive Adam Bello, announced the beginning of the HEARTSafe Rochester Initiative. The new project aims to provide training to the community on how to properly render aid if they experience someone in sudden cardiac arrest.

The University of Rochester, the American Heart Association, AMR, and Rochester Broadway Theater League are involved in the project, with a collective goal of training 15 percent of residents, which equals 113,000 people, in CPR and AED use. When this number is satisfied, the American Hear
