A Maryland State Police helicopter crew hoisted an injured park visitor to safety Saturday evening after the person fell about 25 feet from a tree in a remote, marshy area of Charles County.

Trooper 7, based in St. Mary’s County, was dispatched around 6:15 p.m. to assist first responders who had reached the victim near Port Tobacco but needed an aerial evacuation because of the person’s injuries, police said.

According to authorities, crews from Charles County Fire and Rescue, the La Plata Volunteer Fire Department and Charles County Department of Emergency Services had stabilized the patient but determined a medevac flight to a trauma center was necessary.
