Normal people celebrate victories. Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber and his crew of lightweights hail their failures.

Webber’s administration just released another breathless but deceptive account of life in Santa Fe. “Your city at work,” the statement began. “Paving Complete, Final Work Continues on North Guadalupe Street.”

Webber’s team initially said reconstruction of Guadalupe Street would be completed in 18 months. Already the project has gone on for 20 months.

Still, business owners who have worked doubly hard to survive all the detours and lane closures might have felt a sense of hope based on the city’s claim “final work” is underway.
