AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) - Deke Carter became the head football coach at Wildorado just a little over a month ago, but he’s already hit the ground running to prepare his team for success this season.

This is his first head coaching job ever. Before, he used to be a trainer, working with athletes in and around the area.

Brayden Sides, a senior on the Wildorado football team, says Carter has been getting the squad in shape during the offseason.

“We have been working really hard to be where we’re at now,” Sides said. “Coach Carter has been really conditioning us a lot more than any coach has.”

More than just getting his guys ready on the field, he’s also made this team whole once again.
