ORANGEBURG COUNTY, S.C. — Authorities say crews from around South Carolina battled for 16 hours to bring a large fire at an Orangeburg County salvage yard under control on Saturday afternoon and Sunday morning.

The flames erupted from scrap metal at Don's Car Crushing near Holly Hill around noon on Saturday and burned well into the night.

Emergency Services Director Billy Staley said responding departments included Barnwell, Abbeville, Colleton, Berkeley, Clarendon, and Jasper counties, as well as departments in Olanta, Williston, C&B in Ladson, Pine Ridge, Elko, Johnsonville, Little Mountain, Hannah, Salem, and Howe Springs.
