UNION COUNTY, Ky. (WEHT) -- The Union County Distinguished Young Woman held its annual program Sunday, giving out several scholarships.
Officials say Distinguished Young Woman was founded as a way to reward high school girls looking to pursue higher education. Eyewitness News was told this remains the largest and oldest scholarship program of its kind.
This year Union County had six participants. Cailey Divine was named this year's Distinguished Young Woman and was awarded a $3,000 scholarship.
“It feels amazing. It's definitely a breath of fresh air for this program to be over with today,” Divine said. “We've all been working very hard, and I'm proud of all the girls, and I'm especially proud of myself.”
