A woman has died after she struck a deer while riding a motorcycle Saturday night in Dexter, Maine.

Police say they responded around 7:30 p.m. to Route 7 northbound for a motorcycle crash and arrived to find that a 63-year-old female motorcyclist had hit a deer while it was crossing the road.

The woman had life-threatening injuries and was flown by medical helicopter to Northern Light Medical Center in Bangor, where she was listed in critical condition, police said. She later died from her injuries.

Police are withholding her name pending family notification.

"Our hearts go out to the family at this time," the Dexter Police Department wrote in a Facebook post.

An investigation is ongoing.
