Cam’Ron McCoy faked a handoff and then pump faked a pass as Southern football stood on its opponent’s 11-yard line in the fourth quarter.

The junior Jackson State transfer looked left and didn’t like what he saw. Before McCoy realized, North Carolina Central defensive end Thomas Johnson swarmed and cleanly swiped the ball from his hand. Johnson also reeled in the fumble, extinguishing the Jaguars’ fire in pulling off a 17-point comeback with 9:50 left.

“He got a little careless with the football and turned it over and that kinda took a little wind out of our sail,” Southern coach Terrence Graves said.
