You can go big with New Orleans dining, from the high end institutions to the latest new spots catching buzz. But there’s a special pleasure in finding that small, low-key restaurant cooking wonderful food and keeping things affordable.

Here are three I’ve re-visited recently, all relatively new. They could be easy to overlook, but they should definitely be on your list.

Smoke & Honey

3301 Bienville St., no phone

This Mid-City restaurant is always Greek but has a dual identity.

By day, it’s a casual café with counter service for bagels, salads, sandwiches (I especially like the breakfast gyro with crisp fries and squeaky halloumi) and a satellite coffee bar from the nearby Coffee Science roasters.
