Jim Murray, who was raised in a row home in West Philly and went on to serve as the Eagles’ general manager for nearly a decade, has died. He was 87.

Philadelphia sports media veteran Rob Ellis, who was Murray’s godson, reported the news on social media.

Murray attended West Catholic and Villanova before embarking on a long and distinguished career in sports administration and community service.

After graduating from Villanova, he served in the Marine Corps Reserve and began his sports administration career with minor-league baseball affiliates the Tidewater Tides and Atlanta Crackers. In 1966, he began serving as Villanova’s sports information director, and in 1969 he joined the Eagles’ public relation
