JOHNSON COUNTY, Ind. (WPTA) - Hundreds of people protested on Sunday afternoon against a proposal to detain undocumented immigrants at Camp Atterbury in southern Indiana.
In July, U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced that Camp Atterbury, located in Franklin, will be used to house immigrant detainees. It’s not yet clear when U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) will begin using the base as a detention facility.
The rally against ICE’s use of Camp Atterbury was organized by District 9 U.S. Congressional candidate Brad Meyer, 21Alive News sister station WTHR reports .
The protest also comes as FOX News reports that up to 1,700 National Guardsmen are set to mobilize in 19 states, including here in Indiana.
