SPOKANE, Wash. — A man has been taken to the hospital in critical condition after being rescued from a house fire on Spokane's lower South Hill.

The Spokane Fire Department (SFD) said crews responded to the fire at East 7th Avenue and South Sherman Street around 10:30 a.m. after callers reported seeing flames coming from the front of the home.

Dispatchers were advised that a victim was likely trapped in the home, and responding firefighters quickly began a search of the home while simultaneously attacking the flames.

SFD says firefighters found an unconscious man on the first floor and removed a sill from a window on the first floor to get the man safely out of the home. The man was taken to Sacred Heart Medical Center in critical condition.
