As Western Washington emerges from a multiday heat advisory, a new weather system is bringing the potential for thunderstorms, the National Weather Service said.

After a five-day stint with temperatures in the upper 80s and into the low 90s, cooler conditions will sweep the region, said meteorologist Logan Howard. Temperatures at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport are expected to peak at 81 on Wednesday and 83 on Thursday.

There’s a 20% chance of afternoon showers on Wednesday and a slight potential for thunderstorms at SeaTac, with only a 5-10% chance of rumbles in Seattle, Howard said.
