In front of the soon-to-close Lake City Fred Meyer, mayoral candidate Katie Wilson pledged Tuesday to explore government-backed grocery stores if she’s elected this fall, as she accepted a significant endorsement from grocery workers union UFCW 3000, the state’s largest union.

The pledge, which echoes a similar pitch from New York City’s likely next mayor, Zohran Mamdani, helped to spur UFCW 3000 into backing her for mayor after the union sat out the primary.

Despite her background working with labor unions, Wilson struggled to gain a toehold with them in the primary as Mayor Bruce Harrell locked up support.
