MASH is a severe form of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease where excess fat in the liver causes inflammation.

About 5% of U.S. adults have MASH (short for metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis ), and many have no symptoms. Without treatment, it can progress to severe liver scarring (cirrhosis) . MASH also increases the risk of both diabetes and heart disease.
