Vanderbilt men’s basketball coach Mark Byington did strong work in the NCAA portal for the second straight year, signing eight players to offset the seven who departed.

But the Commodores have apparently been denied a potential ninth transfer addition, per sports business publication Sportico .

According to the report, Vandy had made a $350,000 NIL offer to 25-year-old guard Derrin Boyd, who was a standout guard at Lipscomb in 2022-23 and 2023-24 before putting up good numbers at the College of Charleston in 2024-25.

But Chief U.S. District Judge William L. Campbell Jr., the same judge who gave Vandy quarterback Diego Pavia an added year of eligibility, on Friday ruled against that option for Boyd, per Sportico .
