Construction on East State Street in Rockford will begin Aug. 27. The Illinois Department of Transportation announced the project will cover the area from Rockford College Entrance Drive to Fairview Avenue.

The $1.8 million project will involve patching, milling and resurfacing the road, according to a community announcement. Additional work includes sidewalk updates, signal improvements, inlet reconstruction and widening of the right turn lane.

Work will be conducted at night from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m., with lane closures and traffic managed by flaggers. No in-roadway work will occur after 6 a.m. The project is expected to be completed by the end of May 2026.
